eBay: late-war Bf109's with high rudders & extended tail wheel

That was my initial thoughts too Chris... we have a thread on Red 7 or Blue 7 here and the Gruppe Bar on that example is much thicker and not so tall...
  2. Having picked up this interesting photo album on my eBay listing on the 18th November here, it transpires that this photo album belonging to Austrian Herbert Rennecke, an airman who served with KGzbV323 and Transportgeschwader 5 in Russia during 1943. The photos were shot at places like: Dnjepropetrowsk-Nord, Kirovoograd , Saporosjie-Ost , Konotop , Charkow-Woitschenko , Dnjepropetrowsk-Sud. Here are a selection of the images, uploaded here for posterity... With thanks to Neil/FalkeEins Blog here for the text...

    eBay: three Bf109 images

Me too Chuck, so it never hurts to be cautious and bring issues like this to all our notice

    eBay: three Bf109 images

Cheers for that David... so are we saying that a seller with 390/100% feedback is selling originals, period copies or modern reproductions?

    eBay: three Bf109 images

You may be right Chuck.. it does appears that in some cases, more than one copy of a period photo was printed at the time. They could also be modern reproductions and this is where reading and understanding the sellers advert and more importantly checking their feedback comes into play...

eBay: ID of pilots with early Fw190A-series?

The same photo appears on page 113 of "Luftwaffe Fighters and Fighter-Bombers over the Far North" by A.Brekken & K.Akra [Classic, 2008] along with the caption "White 7 of 9.Staffel was an example in which the early national insignia was still used on 2-3 year old Fw190A-3's at Herdia in 1945. A fresh coat of RLM76 covers the previous numeral."... no mention of who the two guys are though...
  10. These three images of what appears to be an unusually camouflaged Bf109 coded "Yellow 4" or "White 4", captioned as crashed in Belgium in 1940, are currently listed on eBay here Any thoughts?

    eBay: unusually camouflaged crash-landed Bf109

I totally agree Javian. I made mention in post #9 that there is a distinct difference between the two colour scheme on the Bf109G in the first post and the more subtle greys used on these JG1 machines. Has anybody got access to a sourced photo of a JG300 machine they can share with us as indicated by Richard in post #15?

    eBay: unusually camouflaged crash-landed Bf109

Many thanks for sharing your opinion and thoughts with us Richard. Having taken the volume of your book off my library shelf, I can indeed see many of the similarities you mention. Perhaps there could be a loss associated with a "Yellow 4"/"White 4" that matches the example photographed above?

    eBay: three JG2 Bf109E images

Many thanks for correcting the Ketley & Rolfe comments Sidney... your highly anticipated work cannot come quickly enough!
  15. These three images of Bf109E's belonging to JG2 are currently available on eBay here, here & here The emblem on the second example belonged to 7./JG2 which according to Ketley & Rolfe was worn by Bf109's and Fw190's between the summer of 1940 until late in 1942.

    eBay: Reichsverteidigung Bf109G in 1944/45

Found it... this photo also appears on pages 22/23 of "Luftwaffe im Focus, Spezial No.3, Teil 1" and is captioned as a Bf109G-5 serving with III./JG11 at Oldenburg in September 1943. The inscription on the cowling in "Gin"...
  19. The fantastically clear image below of an /R6 equipped Bf109G is currently available on eBay here. Note the III Gruppe vertical bar on the example to the right... No doubt our Bf109G experts will provide us with the exact sub-type

    eBay: Reichsverteidigung Bf109G in 1944/45

Is it just me or is there something inscribed or painted on the cowl? Perhaps a name? Or do I need my eyes testing again?

    eBay: unusually camouflaged crash-landed Bf109

Many thanks for the additional comments John, off to hunt through my copies of "Geschichte des Jagdgeschwaders 77" albeit volume 3 covering 1943 is currently out on loan! As for the Recon unit, it wouldn't be the Bf109G-6's belonging to NAGr12 as discussed here? It had crossed my mind that there was a similarity with the super shots of Emmerstorfer's "White 14"...

No surprise that the auction appears to have ended early too... hope these three images appear in a published book/magazine rather than disappearing altogether...

    eBay: unusually camouflaged crash-landed Bf109

Its is indeed a shame that the three photos above are not any clearer, but to me, the scheme is just so different from what I'd expect on a Bf109G especially as many of the JG1 examples photographed and profiled are in different subtle shades of grey without such marked differences between the colours seen above. I agree that the port side Tullis or Davison profile of Klööpers bird in the "Defenders of the Reich" doesn't appear to match the scheme continued on the starboard side photo. Off to see if I can find the Sundin profile you make mention of
